Advanced Professional Herbalist Certificate Course

The focus of the Advanced Professional Herbalist Certificate Course is on clinical evaluation, diagnostic techniques, and a more in depth knowledge of the various herbal traditions. The instructors will teach from their own knowledge and experience in each of the given topics, sharing their "clinical gems" with the students. The recommended reading list and the articles in the handouts are designed to be supplemental reading to the instructor's lectures. Some of the articles in the handouts are included to help the student build the library of information that they have available for their clients.

In this course we will:

Cover diagnostic systems from several systems of natural healing from around the world. As the course progresses, the staff will present sections on pulse and tongue diagnosis, body typing, clinical signs and symptoms, laboratory tests, and iridology.
Review and expand our understanding of older ethnic systems, specifically Chinese and Ayurvedic, and delve into the theoretical models that support them, with a continuing study of the energetics that underlie the clinical application of those principles.
Select an area of advanced clinical interest each weekend, and explore it deeply. Areas will include AIDS, liver disease (hepatitis, etc.), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, closed head trauma, neuromuscular disease, degenerative joint conditions, diabetes and other hormone regulation diseases, cardiovascular disease (hypertension, etc.), and the treatment of children and the elderly.
Delve more deeply into the contemporary issues of the day in our herb chemistry and materia medica sessions, including the active principles of various herbs and the controversies surrounding "low dose" herbs.
Have formal case study presentations and group discussion of specific cases and practice issues at each weekend.
Focus on specific practical issues of daily clinical management in the practice management and business section of the course.

Remember that this course consists of three modules. You do not have to take the modules in sequence.

At the end of each module, you will be given an open-book-take-home exam. While you have as long as you need to finish these tests, we recommend that you complete your tests as soon as possible after taking each module. History has shown that the longer the student waits, the less likely it is that they will complete the test and receive their certification. Completion of these tests is required before you are given your Advanced Professional Herbalist Certificate.
